The first church services of this independent Pentecostal ministry were held in an old school house located on 4 & 12 Mile Road in Alexandria, Kentucky.

The Gabbard Tabernacle was founded in 1965 by Reverend Roy Gabbard. Its original building was located on Rifle Range Road in Alexandria, Kentucky, and the congregation named it in his honor because he physically built it almost completely on his own, with help from one or two men and his oldest sons. In March 2003, the church moved to a beautiful new building in Grants Lick, Kentucky, which was miraculously paid in full before the first service was held there.

In November 1970, Reverend Gabbard was led by God to start a church in Cincinnati, Ohio’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. For more than 30 years, Uptown Church was located at the corner of McMicken and Vine Streets. In January 2008, the church moved to a historic building on 9th Street in downtown Cincinnati, where renovations were underway. A dedication service was held in April 2009 when the congregation moved into the fully renovated sanctuary. In August 2017, following the leading of the Spirit, Uptown Church moved from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Cold Spring, Kentucky.

In February 2025, the combined congregations of the Gabbard Tabernacle and Uptown Church moved to 424 Sylvia Drive, Ashburn, Georgia. The Ashburn Community Church is a church plant that was inspired by the Holy Ghost.

Three of Reverend and Mrs. Gabbard’s children are the pastors and ministers at the Ashburn Community Church: Gary Gabbard, Senior Pastor, Adrian Gabbard, Co-Pastor, and Cathy Gabbard Saunders, Associate Minister. They are the fourth generation of Pentecostal preachers carrying on the great heritage of preaching the full gospel message of the New Testament church.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_3,1_3,1_3″ At the age of 17 he had a drowning accident where he was under the water for at least 15 minutes. Even after the people at the scene gave up reviving him after all attempts at CPR failed, Gary miraculously came back to life on the side of the lake. He was rushed to the hospital where he spent 24 hours in critical condition with no prognosis to live. He had double pneumonia in every lobe of his lungs and wasn’t supposed to live but God had other plans. Reverend Roy and Catherine Gabbard, Gary’s parents, knew that the same God that brought him back to life was able to heal his sick body. Gary woke up 24 hours later feeling perfect and in fact asked the nurse for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Immediately the doctors were called in and new X-rays revealed a miracle took place. His lungs were perfect and there was no more pneumonia. God is still a miracle worker.

Rev. Gary started pastoring at 19 at the Gabbard Tabernacle.
